Best places to watch the World Cup in Battersea

Posted on by within London, Battersea

England may be out of the World Cup, but there are still plenty of reasons to watch the football. It’s a great excuse to drink, to check out the crazy football fans and their interesting attire and generally make smug armchair-commentator type comments. It’s also a good time to actually ENJOY football for once – rather than the white-knuckle ride that the England team forces on us all every few years.

And there’s no better place than to watch the football than in and around Battersea.  A sociable, vibrant area, here’s OUR pick of the best places for soccer-loving fans to watch the rest of the tournament:

The Alexandra

This is one of the best known pubs in Battersea. With more than 150 years experience serving some of London’s finest beer, The Alexandra is famous for being attractive for sports fanatics. There are two massive projector screens and five large HD screens devoted to sport. You’ll feel as if you’re at the game itself! With great food on offer (fish and chips, steak burgers and roasts) this is a little slice of heaven for those looking for a special experience when it comes to watching the football.

Bodean’s BBQ

Found on the corner of the well-known Battersea Rise, The Northcote pub has a fantastic selection of beers, wines and spirits as well as food including roast dinners. The Northcote is perfect for those looking to watch sport – with a television in every room and friendly locals, keen to discuss the games.

The Victoria

We have first-hand recommendation of The Victoria pub which provides great food, World Cup coverage, weekly poker nights, Sunday quizzes; as well as fantastic views of Battersea Power Station (with photos inside if you’re looking for more than just vistas). Professionals, as well as families and friends of all ages go to enjoy the incredible ambience and the staff are friendly. Well worth a visit.

The Falcon

Perfect for BBQs, The Falcon has a fantastic garden and a great atmosphere for absorbing World Cup fever (or what’s left of it).  Football will be shown on both indoor and outdoor screens – but make sure you reserve a table first. From traditional Sunday roasts to fish and chips to steak and chips, there’s food to please all tastes.

The Duck

The Dark is a large pub in Battersea with different rooms and lots of TV screens to watch sport on. Food is mainly pizzas, but there are also salads and wraps available. Pizza-wise you can choose from Margherita to Quattro Formaggio to Carne Fuego – so lots of options. The Duck has a traditional feel, rather than a gastro pub.

The Latchmere

This legendary South London pub has recently undergone regeneration, creating a spectacular public house and garden. There are new open spaces with a courtyard with heating, sun terrace, an area for kids and of course an incredible menu dedicated to all things meat! A landmark building on the junction of Latchmere and Battersea Bridge Roads, the pub also has a massive gin balloon. An excellent place to watch the football (and take in some theatre – the first floor is home to Theatre503 – an Olivier award-winning theatre!)

Oh and if you’re looking to mix things up a bit, why not get yourself down to South Lambeth Road, just south of Vauxhall? There’s a massive Portuguese community there and they'll be right behind Brazil NOW PORTUGAL IS OUT OF THE TOURNAMENT. And boy, do the Brazilians know how to party...
