A literary management company and arts consultancy dedicated to building the careers of bestselling authors and creative leaders in their fields has opened new premises in Atlantic Road.
Tibor Jones, which was founded by Brixton husband and wife Kevin Conroy Scott and Landa Acevedo-Scott in 2007, has opened the hub to allow local freelance writers and other creatives to exchange ideas.
Landa explains that Tibor Jones they started looking for new premises last year after learning it would have to leave its previous base at Piano House
We spent six months renovating the workspace, she says. The new hub contains desk space, a meeting room complete with a wall made of 3000 books and lots of bookshelves.
Desks at the new venue are available to rent for £325 a month.
Landa adds: “It would be amazing to work with people who are doing really interesting things in Brixton. There’s a great energy around Brixton and we want to embrace that.”
Tibor Jones, which includes author Wilbur Smith and musicians Johnny Marr and Bernard Sumner on its roster, is also planning to launch a studio that will allow writers to publish their own fiction.
Landa explains: “It’s essentially fiction packaging. We might have an idea [for a piece of fiction], then we discuss it in-house and if the idea is strong enough, we get two writers to develop the idea with our editor.”
The company is also planning to launch TJ Sundays – free afternoons for budding writers with workshops, talks and sessions with established authors – and is considering appointing a writer-in-residence.
