69% of landlords have a good relationship with their tenants

69% of landlords say they have a good relationship with their tenants, while 33% say they are good friends.

The results of a survey carried out by Direct Line for Business, which asked questions of 2,000 people, revealed that only 2% of landlords would describe the relationship they have with their tenants as poor. 

15% said they didn't interact with their tenants simply because they had engaged a letting agent to manage their tenants, and so didn't need to be involved directly in the tenancy. 

The positive results of the survey suggest a healthy rental market in which the vast majority of landlords and their tenants communicate well and are on friendly terms. 

Business Manager at Direct Line for Business, Christina Dimitrov, said: "The idea that landlords and tenants can’t get on is a fallacy, as many of these relationships are very positive and are often long lasting."

Meanwhile, 76% of the landlords surveyed expressed confidence that they could find new tenants quickly should their existing tenants move out. 

The research also found that the characteristics tenants most value in a landlord is an ability to respond promptly to maintenance issues when they arise.
