BAC plans new theatre space

A production is being developed for a new theatre space at the heart of Battersea Arts Centre’s old town hall.

The Little Bulb Theatre Company has been commissioned to work on a show that will be performed in The Courtyard next summer.

David Jubb, artistic director at BAC, says: “I hope we can commission a new show and a new vision for The Courtyard every summer to create an exciting destination in Battersea for all those staycation lovers.”

And as BAC marks six months since the Grand Hall fire in March, plans for the future of the space are gathering momentum.

Before a giant temporary roof is put in place over the winter, consultations with BAC stakeholders in the autumn will gather feedback on potential designs for the Grand Hall by RIBA Stirling Prize-winning architects Haworth Tompkins.

Further ahead, a planning application is due to be submitted by the end of the year and the current aim is to open the new Grand Hall in autumn 2018.

The shows must go on

BAC will stage three festive shows at the end of this year - Town Hall Cherubs, Jackson’s Way: The Christmas Top-up Power-Seminar! and Sara Pascoe’s Christmas Assembly, a raucous get-together of songs, fables and brand-new festive traditions brought to you by the Church of the Science of Christmas.
