Battersea Power Station two years on
Tue 08 Oct 2024
As we approach the second anniversary of Battersea Power Station’s opening to the public, it’s worth reflecting on how its redevelopment has impacted the area. At the recent 2024 Property Awards it won the prestigious Placemaking and Social Value Award - a testament to how this iconic venue has embraced and enriched the community since its grand opening on 14th October 2022.
This milestone also offers an opportunity to assess the first two years of the Power Station as a public landmark, and the numbers are impressive. The redevelopment has created 6,500 jobs, with 3,500 of those coming after the launch of the Power Station and Electric Boulevard. Additionally, over £6 million has been donated to local charities, groups, and causes, with more than £4 million benefiting organizations in Wandsworth.
The success of the new Northern Line Underground station at the site has greatly improved connectivity between the wider Battersea area and central London, making it easier for residents to get into Zone 1 and increasing accesibility to the Power Station's attractions. The new homes and offices have been in high demand, and the shops, restaurants, and entertainment facilities within the Power Station and surrounding complex continue to attract both new visitors and loyal customers every day. The expectation is for the redevelopment to remain a popular attraction and community resource.
