Brixton talent on display at this month’s Design Trial

The Brixton Design Trial will spring to life later this month, when over 70 local artists, makers and organisations will come together in what is being described as a ‘creative community takeover’.

The event will run from 15 – 23 September 2018.

Taking guidance from this year’s theme, We Belong, a varied programme of shows, events, exhibitions and installations will be held across Brixton in venues, streets and public spaces.

The openness of Brixton will be celebrated, while the exhibitions and events will all discuss the theme of belonging and togetherness, and the nature of living in such a diverse city as London.

Brixton’s artistic talent will be on display, and this year’s event will receive a boost from the many creative enterprises which have taken shape in International House. The venue is being turned into a workspace for start-ups and new businesses.

The Brixton Design Trial is organised as part of London Design Festival. In 2017, London Design Festival introduced ‘Design Routes’ to ‘recognise smaller clusters of design activity in London’ outside of the noteworthy Design Districts.

Events being held as part of the Brixton Design Trial include Windrush Squared, Kindred Spirits, and Sustainable Brixton, among many others.

Brixton Design Trial organisers are currently looking for volunteers who know the local area to take on the role of tour guides at the festival. If you’re a long-time Brixton resident, you might be the perfect person.
