Ok it’s that time of the year again. Yep, get your credit card out; you’re going shopping! And not for yourself either, for the mass of nieces, cousins, uncles, children etc you may have. Ahhh the joy of giving...

Obviously we’re joking - we’re not like Scrooge; we love Christmas. And where better to splurge your hard earned cash than on the eclectic streets of Brixton? If you’re looking for something a bit different, here are a few tips on where to head if you are looking for Christmas shopping in Brixton.

Brixton Night Market

It’s launching this Friday (6th December) for two nights - make sure you don’t miss out! Yes, it’s Brixton Night Market, which aims to bring together a range of stalls from well known local restaurants, as well as a smattering of newcomers and special guests. The market’s taking place in Windrush Square and the objective is to help local and street traders, especially food stalls that find it tough to trade in markets such as Lambeth, due to competition. There will also be a range of crafts and new local businesses on display as well as live entertainment. So remember to pay the market a visit – and if you’re interested get in contact regarding a stall - fees start from £40 a day.

Luxury Cards and Stationary

If you’re after some stationery with a twist, check out what Katie Leamon’s got on offer. A range of lovely cards with different themes, such as nursery rhymes, playing cards - all with original illustrations - you can pick up a card with an authentic feel. The other benefit is you won’t have to brace the cold weather - so instead of going Christmas shopping in Brixton, you can just hop on your laptop in bed and peruse this delightful site.

Brixton Retro and Vintage Market

Want to pick up a handful of kooky vintage presents? Check out the retro and vintage market if you’re looking for something different. From jewellery to shoes to vintage clothes and furniture, make sure you have a thorough rummage through the goods on offer. And it’s not just clothes - there’s also a vintage sweet stall that will take you back to your childhood days! The market takes place on the third Saturday of the month, so why not go along and see what it’s all about - it’s just a minute’s walk from the tube.
