New food festival offers taste of Brixton

Brixton’s independent food businesses are joining forces to promote the area’s exciting and diverse culinary offerings at a new festival that will take place in September.

The first Brixton Food Festival, to be held on the weekend of 10 and 11 September, is being organised by Brixton BID - a not-for-profit collective of local businesses who are working together to help improve their immediate area. 

The organisers point out that Brixton food businesses are slowly taking over the capital, and more and more are cropping up right here each month.

“We think it’s time we celebrated the impact Brixton has on the food scene across the UK, and showcase the amazing people and businesses that are making it happen here.”

The festival will see the doors to Brixton’s restaurants, markets and food traders thrown open to allow the whole of London to discover what makes this part of the capital so special.

Events, entertainment and cooking demonstrations will take place throughout both days at venues including Brixton Village Market, Market Row, Pop Brixton, Electric Avenue, Brixton Station Road Market and Windrush Square.

To add a competitive edge to the festival, businesses taking part have been asked to offer a special, takeaway menu item throughout the weekend.

All the dishes – which will cost £2 or less and showcase what the food business does best - will be entered into a Taste of Brixton competition, with festival visitors voting for their favourites throughout the event.
